The shape of the basket
gives this Steel Swirl Straight Quillion
Rapier it's name. This excellent example of a renaissance
rapier can trace it's design back to 17th century Europe, where
swordplay with the rapier was considered an essential part of
a gentleman's education. Disagreements were settled, very often,
by the best swordsman. The blades generally originated in one
of the blade centers of the world such as Toledo, Spain or Soligen,
Germany, but many different baskets and hilts were used resultant
from the customizing of the local craftsman from all over Europe.
